Description:

Full professor of Engineering Geology at the Technical University of Bari. He has been Deputy Dean at the Engineering Faculty of Taranto currently he is expert delegate at the National Main Board for Public Works.
His scientific activity is related to the geomorphological and mechanical analysis of landslide and of large territorial phenomena, the modeling of natural system, the protection from geological hazard, climatic changes and their influence on groundwater resources, and engineering geology for cultural heritage.
He graduated cum laude in Civil Engineering at the University of Bari in 1985. He got a PhD in Geotechnical Engineering at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” (1991) .
He has been Officer of the Air Force Army Corp of Engineering (1988), researcher at the Study and Research Department of the National electricity board ENEL (1988-89) and Consultant Engineer for engineering geology, geotechnical engineering and hydraulic problems in civil engineering works (1991-1994). In 1993 he was the Italian delegate at the 7th European Young Geotechnical Engineers Conference.
In 1994 he was employed at the Ministry of Public Work, working in Rome at the National Main Board for Public Work. He was also member of the Italian technical delegation at the European Community for the standardization of rules of construction products. Since 1995 to 2005 he was expert delegate in the I Section of the National Main Board for Public Works.
In 1995 he was employed at the Technical University of Bari as lecturer in Geotechnical Engineering at the Engineering Faculty of Taranto. At the same Faculty, he became Associate and then Full professor in Engineering Geology, and during the period 2006-09 he was deputy Dean. He has been the director of the Master course in Disaster Management (2003-2005).
He has developed research activity in the following fields: soil mechanics, engineering geology, territorial stability, landslide, geological and geomorphological aspects of territorial hazard; climatic changes and groundwater resources; modeling of natural systems; engineering geology for cultural heritage.
